🏛️ City Heritage & History

Nestled in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Arlington was founded in 1876 along the Texas and Pacific Railway. Named after General Robert E. Lee's Arlington House in Virginia, this thriving city initially grew as a cotton-ginning and farming center before incorporating on April 21, 1884.

European settlers had established themselves in the area by the 1840s following the Battle of Village Creek between Texas General Edward H. Tarrant and Native American tribes. The rich soil attracted farmers, leading to several agriculture-related businesses being well-established by the late 19th century.

In the early 20th century, Arlington became known for its mineral well, drilled exactly in the middle of downtown from 1892 until 1951. This unique feature attracted visitors to the town, despite later being paved over and turned into a public memorial plaza.

Today, Arlington is home to nearly 400,000 residents and has evolved into a diverse hub, boasting water, electricity, natural gas, and telephone services since 1910. The city's population quickly expanded, reaching an estimated 3,031 in 1925 when the first public works projects were undertaken, such as constructing Arlington Downs, a horse-racing facility.

As Arlington continues to grow, it honors its rich past while embracing new opportunities for innovation and growth in the heart of Texas.
