Apple Springs, a quaint unincorporated community nestled in Trinity County, Texas, traces its roots back to the aftermath of the Civil War. Founded as May Apple Springs, the town's namesake sprung from a nearby spring where the eponymous wildflowers thrived. By 1884, a post office had begun operation, signaling the fledgling settlement's emergence.

The community's evolution was closely tied to the railroad that arrived in the early 20th century. As tracks were laid between Groveton and Vair, Apple Springs moved its heart to follow along with progress. The First World War years saw three general stores, a gin, a bank, and a cafe bustling with activity as 75 souls called this place home.

Towering above all else was the mighty rail connection that shaped Apple Springs as generations came and went. Though the tracks fell into disuse by 1931 and rerouted travel to State Highway 94, the town persevered. In its mid-1930s heyday, 12 businesses flourished among a population of 150, while in 1965, 285 residents embraced life under the wide Texas sky.

Today, a population of 185 remain steadfast as they carry on Apple Springs' legacy, a testament to their forebearers' grit and resilience. In January 1990, an especially potent tornado wreaked havoc, damaging around 20 homes, overturning a mobile home, and snapping several power poles. Yet, just like generations past, the people of Apple Springs continue to rebuild, reaffirming their spirit that cannot be broken by Mother Nature's wrath nor time's relentless march forward.
