📊 Aubrey — Census & Demographic Data
Official data from the US Census Bureau, American Community Survey.
Nestled in the heart of Denton County, Texas, Aubrey is a city steeped in rich history and charm. Officially founded in 1867 by Civil War veteran Lemuel Noah Edwards, who built the second frame house, this quaint town has witnessed significant developments over the years. The Edwards family played a pivotal role in shaping early Aubrey, with each of their ten children receiving a lot to build their own home.
In 1881, the Texas and Pacific Railway arrived in Aubrey, revolutionizing transportation and access to markets. Lemuel Edwards further demonstrated his community spirit by offering a lot to each congregation that built a church within a year. The construction of the one-room schoolhouse in town marked yet another milestone in Aubrey's history.
Aubrey's economy initially thrived on peanut farms that surrounded the town. However, as time progressed, horse ranches began to take over, reflecting the evolving landscape of this historic city. Today, as homes continue to replace the old peanut farms, Aubrey remains a testament to its past while embracing new beginnings.
